You can't just imagine the number of people with this dark belief that you should be without principles in order to succeed!
That honesty, integrity, and other virtues are a recipe for failure!
I am against that, and thank God I found someone who agrees!
(I am sure there are many more who do).

I experienced this, trying to please all your friends, family, work mates ...etc. will make them look down on you, and will get you confused, and eventually you will forget about yourself, and yes, it will lead you to failure in whatever you are doing.
You need sometimes to protest, or find a proper and polite way to object.
Finally, note, we said "Trying to Please", and not "To Please", because pleasing EVERYBODY, is just impossible, you can not please everybody.
